I'm not sure how they make the shape of other bulbs, but if the glass is blown in a mold, it may not be any more expensive. The tooling on the die would probably be cheaper with the flat sides, which is far easier to machine. On second thought, maybe it wouldn't cost that much more to make."

"You said it perfectly Oosik. The entire point is to lose speed. Even if you are shooting missiles, you still need the other guy to be in front. This puts you behind him. I don't know what airplanes are capable of it, but I know it's a useful tactic. It sounds like SeaFox likes to use it."

"Because if someone is on your tail, suddenly slowing down let's them pass in front of you, putting your adversary in range of your guns instead of the other way around. Speed isn't everything, it's knowing when to use your speed."

"The officials handed us a payload. We couldn't do any modifications. Water bottles were supposed to act as passengers, and half bricks were used as cargo pallets. There was also a size restriction. Ready-to-fly, the plane had to fit in a 4'x5' spot area. Otherwise, we would have made it longer, more streamlined. We would have had longer wings too. The engine could be moved, but it is far too big to put in another plane. We wouldn't have used one this big had we known how large it was. The motor by itself weighed over two pounds. This year's plane will have a longer wingspan and will be more streamlined because all the payloads are held externally. We don't really need a fuselage. I'd tell you more about what we're thinking, but I'm still thinking about competitive advantage at this point. We don't want to give away anything while it's still this early in the competition."

"Thank you. That wind was a big help with take-off. That's why it took off so quickly. This year's competition has all new requirements, so it will be a completely different plane. We're building on the successes of last year, and will hopefully fix our mistakes. We probably won't have a wooden plane this year. Composites are no longer the material of the future."
