"The UN passed resolution after resolution for over a decade and did nothing. I won't argue the validity of the conflict, but if you are EVER expecting the UN to do ANYTHING... you are going to be waiting a long time."

"Oh, as per your point about balancing the fairtax on paper -- Dr. Laurence Kotlikoff of Boston University did just that. A detailed 2006 study published in Tax Notes by the fiscally conservative Beacon Hill Institute at Suffolk University and Kotlikoff concluded the FairTax would be revenue-neutral for the tax year 2007"

"I don't think I'll even try to convince you Dookie on the basic equality of the fairtax, but I will say that if you damn it saying the gov't will find loopholes in the future is not a good reason. HR25, as written has no loopholes. As a point brought up earlier about corporations paying taxes, you must not realize the basic economic point that CORPORATIONS DO NOT PAY TAXES. I put that all caps for a reason. Any taxes that the gov't TAKES from a business is just passed down to the consumer. People pay taxes, a corporation does not. Last point - the FairTax wasn't brought up by the republicans. Economic research was done by highly regarded economists form Stanford, Harvard, and MIT and institutions like the CATO Institute and the Heritage Foundation."

"Thanks for the thoughtful explative laden reply Dookie. You know who else thought a heavy progressive income tax was a wonderful idea? Karl Marx. It's point #2 in Communist Manifesto. I agree however that deficit spending isn't the way to go -- but no system of taxation fixes that -- polititians are more than willing to buy votes for more special interest money. The Fair tax taxes EVERYONE on what they spend. No loopholes, no exceptions, no offshore accounts. Rich and poor alike pay, tourists pay, illegals pay."

"Actually Dookie, although I'm not saying I condone Gitmo, the Geneva conventions don't apply to those we caught as they are not legal combatants as defined by the conventions. We should still uphold them as it's the right thing to do, but we aren't bound in any way to do so."

"You have a good point Khan except for one thing.... That car he bought now only costs about 20,000$ since the people that make the car aren't having to include what they had to pay in taxes. So, when the gov't takes it's share it brings the price back up to 25,000 and our joe-middle class is no worse off. He's better off too since his paycheck is larger without the income tax, plus the prebate the gov't sent him at the 1st of the month. The gov't gets ~5,600 from joe, and ~46,000 from rich-dude. Thanks for actually checking out the site too, Khan. Most people just nay-say the plan without actually checking into it."

"It's not "latest" it's been around for quite a while (Alexander Hamilton wrote about it, and the current proposal has been around since 1995), and been endorsed by many major economic studies. Why do you think it would allow rich people to pay less? Everyone pays the same based on what you buy. If you are rich and buy a yacht, you would pay much more than if a middle class person bought a car. Also, if you are rich, you couldn't hire a good tax lawyer to find loopholes and tax shelters to avoid paying either like our current system allows."
